Welcome to HVSJC
Hunter Valley Showjumping Club commenced in the Hunter area in the late 60’s and was held on various properties until settling at the Appletree Road, Barnsley grounds, where it stayed until the end of 2003. With the desire to find a showjumping friendly ground, the club moved to Salt Ash and then in 2006 to Maitland Showground.
The aim of the "Not for Profit" club is to provide quality showjumping in training and competition for all, from novice to the professional and to promote the sport of showjumping throughout the Hunter Valley. The club ONLY uses qualified course designers and experienced riders, coaches and officials to supervise the days, with the support of many volunteers, ensuring that the safety and enjoyment of the members is paramount. The club is fully insured through Equestrian Australia, affiliated with Equestrian NSW and Jumping NSW. The use of quality, up to date equipment is important to the club and the majority of the profits go directly back to equipment and the riding surface, and the remainder to cover insurances and basic running costs of the club. Heights commence at 60cm (lower if required) and continue through to 1.20m and higher if required. Members range in age from young children to senior riders, with all levels of experience from novice to professional. Ongoing training courses and hands on experience are provided by the club for those interested in furthering their knowledge. The showground facilities provide safe, spacious parking facilities and stalls can be used to safely secure horses during the day. The centre ring where jumping takes place is fully enclosed with only 1 entrance/exit point, and allows adequate space for young or green horses or nervous riders, to just flatwork around this area until ready to enjoy the jumping experience if they choose to.
Hunter Valley Showjumping Club is managed and operated by volunteers. Extra volunteers are requested to help out on club days and rewarded with "free round" vouchers for their efforts. Showjumping events are held once a month at differing times (refer to calendar) with training days and competition days. The Club has been host of the NSW Country Showjumping Championships since 2009, ran the very successful Spring Championships in September 2011, and attracts riders from all over NSW and interstate.
Note to all HVSJC members and interested showjumpers.
Training Day scheduled for this Sunday (20th) has been cancelled.
The club is currently experiencing a shortage of committee members required to run the club days. We are currently functioning with four active committee members and when one or two of these are not available for a club day, this makes the setting up and running of the day impossible.
We have had a great number of riders arriving in time to help set up the last few days, with setting out cups, numbers, posts and chain, and this is especially appreciated. We are in now in desperate need of a few males that can hook up the trailers to tow vehicles and manage the heavier pieces of equipment.
Our small, but dedicated committee, have spent many years building on the club resources and equipment to establish a high quality and safe jumping and training environment, and hope this will continue for many years to come. When there are so few doing the “behind the scenes” management and the running of the days, it can become a strain and the ideal would be to spread the load a little. Although this commitment from riders does not have to mean officially joining the committee, we do encourage and appreciate input from those that benefit from the club in regard to it’s future and overall management.
The Maitland Showground facilities are a great asset to the club with ample space in the ring and the parking and stabling areas, but the grounds are also committed to other activities on some days that restrict our selection of dates and this becomes particularly difficult with late changes of other events that clash.
The next scheduled day is 3rd June as a training day, and we will also look at running a few competition rounds on this day if numbers are sufficient.
I look forward to welcoming many new members and helpers who enjoy the sport of showjumping in this great country. If you have any support to offer, please contact myself on 0417 261550, or any other Committee members.
Thank you.
